blah blah podcasts blah

I have been in a couple meetings recently where conversations about sending DM or newsletters via email have met with cold a response

I appreciate this may be ‘old hat’ in the world of web 2.0 tools, but I wondered what people’s opinions were about e-newsletters and viral marketing etc…

At the same meetings people who have been very receptive to the benefits of online dialogue through blogs seem suspicious of using email to communicate with audiences.

I still think emails are a good way of connecting with people but they have to be specifically designed and targeted to a particular audience.

Negative attitudes generally arise when overuse of something renders it less effective.

An e-newsletter for the sake of an e-newsletter won’t work… and this may be the risk facing podcasts as their proliferation continues apace.

Emails and podcasts must engage with the recipient. Bland html bulletins with no unique or interesting content are just as pointless as hearing Telegraph correspondents read out their articles verbatim!

We can’t expect internet tools – either Web 1.0 or 2.0 – to be effective if we don’t apply them properly and to their full capabilities…
