Another new Yorkshire PR blogger

07/31/2006 by simoncollister 3 Comments

Hot on the heels of Adopted Northerner comes another Yorkshire-based PR blogger.

Ian Green is Head of Media at Wakefield firm, Green Communications and has started blogging at Green Gathering.

The blog appears to be a mix of Ian’s personal thoughts on PR and his personal adventures. Either way he writes from the perspective of a PR professional who gets blogs and is keen to exploit their potential and talks about setting up Green coporate blog.

 Welcome to the blogocircle, Ian!

Erm, read his first post and then read this feature by Business Week from May 2005:
    http://tinyurl.com/aptww
    It’s almost word for word:
BW: “Go ahead and bellyache about blogs. But you cannot afford to close your eyes to them, because they’re simply the most explosive outbreak in the information world since the Internet itself.”
GG: “Go ahead and trash blogs by all means, but you cannot afford to close your eyes to them, because they’re simply the most exciting thing to happen since the internet, possibly with the exception of Web 2.0.”
    AND
BW: “And they’re going to shake up just about every business — including yours. It doesn’t matter whether you’re shipping paper clips, pork bellies, or videos of Britney in a bikini, blogs are a phenomenon that you cannot ignore, postpone, or delegate. Given the changes barreling down upon us, blogs are not a business elective. They’re a prerequisite.”
GG: Blogging is going to shake up just about every business – including yours. It doesn’t matter whether you’re shipping paper clips, software, or videos of Boris John son head-butting a German footballer in the groin (yes, really!), blogs are a phenomenon that you cannot ignore, postpone, or delegate. Given the changes barreling down upon us, blogs are not a business elective. They’re a prerequisite.”
    AND
BW: “There’s a little problem, though. Many of you don’t visit blogs — or haven’t since blogs became a sensation in last year’s Presidential race. According to a Pew Research Center Survey, only 27% of Internet users in America now bother to read them.”
GG: “There’s a little problem, though. Many of you don’t visit blogs. According to a Pew Research Centre Survey only 27% of Internet users in America bother to read them.”
    I could go on…
I’m not into trashing new bloggers (or any bloggers for that matter) but you can’t rip someone else’s work and claim it as your own. Particularly on the Internet… you’ll always get caught out.

Perhaps Ian had just read the BW article and it was fresh in his mind…. either way a valuable lesson learned about the power of networks, openness etc…

    Hi Simon,
Thanks for the comments – and subsequent comments from Stephen. Point taken – the BW article has been stuck with me for a while. Look forward to any further contact and thanks for tip on subscribe issue but still can’t work out what I need to do.
    Ian
