Very bad PR

02/27/2006 by simoncollister Leave a Comment

Stuart Bruce is right to highight the tawdry goings on at former Downing Street aide Tim Allan’s Portland PR firm. I too am surprised that this story wasn’t up on page 2 among the real news rather than buried in the Diary section of last week’s edition of PR Week.

A GMB union official is quoted as saying: ‘If ever there was a reason for MPs to look at what people like Allan get up to, this is it … He [Allan] is giving PR a bad name.’

As if that weren’t bad enough, Allan was ‘away on holiday’ when a protest was held atPortland’s offices the other week and when PR Week called to get his side of the story he refused to ‘comment on advice given to clients’.

Almost one year into Chartered status and the UK PR industry still has to put up with a debacle such as this. Someone ought to book Allan onto a crisis management course.
