I just thought I’d better add this post in response to Philip Young’s comment below.
Philip and Tom didn’t have the same slide, but they did both have slides that raised the question: is PR dead? An important issue, and something I hadn’t thought about until that point in time.
Their conclusions were that essentially PR isn’t dead but undergoing a period of exciting change – something I couldn’t agree with more. I won’t give any more away, but simply say make sure you register for the London leg of the ‘New PR’ conference in May if you haven’t yet attended one!
Do you not think that asking me to register for a conference to find out something that you already know seems a bit old fashioned?
For me it says, “to have this knowledge, you have to belong to this club. That will cost you both time and money.”
Whereas nowadays, thanks to the blogosphere, knowledge is starting to be shared as it should be – free of charge and with a generosity of spirit.
If you want me to pay good money for a conference, sell it to me – why is it a “must absolutely attend” event? What did you learn from it that changed your live so much I’m willing to listen to your advice – and act on it?
(And, fyi, it’s impossible to register to the London event at the moment anyway. As of ten minutes ago, the price is still tbc!)
