Antony Mayfield reports the sad news this morning that PR Business is closing as a weekly mag and will re-launch as a monthly later in the year.
There is a lot of background on the closure from Antony, who writes/wrote a weekly tech column for the mag.
I just want to say that I will miss getting PRB every week as I believe that it offered much more interesting content than PR Week (colleagues agree). Despite its relative slimness I found I spent longer reading PRB than PR Week - which usually is flicked through swiftly.
PRB also embraced new media which was a plus point as a PR blogger.
I wondered in my comments to Antony whether PRB’s backers' decision to pull the plug had anything to with PR Week now being re-offered free to CIPR members. I can see why it would.
I hope that PRB can be a success as a monthly and then move back into its weekly slot as I agree with Antony that monopolies are usually a bad idea…. But my experience of monthlies is that they just can’t do justice to an industry that is as fast moving as PR/media.
So, farewell Eirwen Oxley-Green. At least until next month.

Simon
I agree it's sad news. PRB has provided much needed competition - especially after the bizarre decision to charge CIPR members for PR Week. I hope PRB adjusts successfully to life as a monthly - it will certainly need a strong online presence to make up for the change.

I just wonder if a trade and tech mag can survive. There is not much good news for the existing titles in other fields.
One can, of course speculate about a Social Media title. That would be fun :)
