It’s an odd move by the CIPR honouring Boris Johnson:
Zetter said: "For me Boris Johnson is
one of the great communicators of our age. He is a prolific writer and
commentator, communicating via numerous and vastly different channels.
Well yes. And he’s also the Conservative candidate for London Mayor, which is a happy coincidence as former President Lionel Zetter a long London Conservative activist.
I’m about to renew my subs for the CIPR so before handing over my cash I’d be interested in knowing if a) was this a political move by the CIPR b) who was invited to the private dinner at which Boris received his award and c) why I wasn’t invited! Will the CIPR tell us?

I also feel that Johnson’s recent inane comments about the role of communicators in the GLA raise serious questions about why the CIPR should be honouring this buffoon.
There may be aserious point to be made about the number of press officers employed by Ken Livingstone. Sadly Boris didn’t make it, preferring instead to exploit the myth that there is something sinister about having professionals employed to manage to communicate.

Hi Liam. Apparently Boris’ exact phrase was “gigantic bat-eared Labour spin doctors”. So I can understand the CIPR’s wise move because – aside from his call to sack PROs – his communication is clearly: 1) clear and well argued 2) non-sensational and 3) not utterly insane. Well done CIPR.
