Jarvis also says: “iPhone is the future of mobile web”

I posted the other week about John Naughton’s observation that the iPod Touch/iPhone could be the future of the mobile internet.

Well, in case you need convincing here’s Jeff Jarvis saying pretty much the same thing…. only on video.

  1. The iPhone doesn’t bring anything new to the table as far as the mobile web’s concerned. It’s just prettier.
I’ve been a mobile web user for around two years now and I can’t see anything the iPhone has that others don’t to be honest.
In fact the iPhone isn’t 3G capable so I’ll stick with me faster Nokia ta very much.

  2. I think one of the main – and important – issues here is that people don’t see the iPhone as a hpone first and foremost. True, my mobile has Windows and I can browse, and text and call people but I still think of it as a phone first, something else second.

  3. Mmm, I’m not too sure. All you’ve got to do is look at your friends’ status updates on FB to see how many are using the mobile web to update them.
Quite a lot of mine are and I only know of one of my friends who has an iPhone. I’d love to know the percentage of the mobile market the iPhone owns. 0.1%? 0.2%? If that?
Of course the iPhone won’t hinder the usage of the mobile web but I don’t think it’s the iPhone alone that will make or break it.
There’s much more to consider such as ease of use (on all handsets), quality of mobile websites and, most importantly, the data costs from mobile carriers.
Three Mobile charge £5 for unlimited usage. Can’t get fairer than that.
